The second-hand marketplace Members Express Anger Over Sizing Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.

The popular resale platform has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.

Social Media Backlash

Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.

Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.

The platform has recommended to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.

Measurement Approach Changes

Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.

Member Experiences

One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.

Required Changes

A different user, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she said.

Platform Context

The service features exceeding 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.

It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: earlier, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
